Summer Intensive Student Testimonials
I attended the School of American Ballet summer intensive in New York City. It is the official school of New York City Ballet and where I was able to continue to grow and develop artistically. SAB is known for its Balanchine Technique which makes the school unique in its own way and pushed me to further challenge myself to have a complete understanding of this technique's versatility. In the five weeks of attending SAB, I have strengthened physically and mentally, which ultimately helped me improve overall. This program has immeasurably shaped my training in classical ballet and served as a significant steppingstone to achieving my goal of becoming a professional dancer. I appreciate and am very thankful to The Partners of the Fine Arts Center and would not have been able to attend this program of study without its amazing support.
This summer I visited the Kansas City Art institute for their Precollege Art Lab program. The process was a 2 week-long intensive program that had us sectioned into a class of our choice, my choice was painting, I learned a series of techniques as well as managing time better. I improved immensely in my art with that short time frame and met some really great people who have a wonderful passion for art. The instructors were well knowledgeable and incredible on giving assistance. Those two weeks were definitely the highlight of my summer and I was able to keep my artwork as a memory and a reminder of how hard I worked as well as how much fun I had at that program.
My summer intensive at Kansas City Ballet was incredible. I was exposed to new styles of dance which helps me become a more well-rounded dancer. The dance teachers were all incredibly knowledgeable and helped me expand my ballet technique even further. After going to summer intensive my drive to improve and explore new movements was expanded. The summer intensive brought back motivation to push myself 100% always.
Having the opportunity to attend a summer creative writing program was surreal. The experience challenged me to push my boundaries when writing, and I explored new forms and methods of creating work in the pursuit of trying to solidify my voice as a writer. I generated work that I am excited to enter into competitions and workshop with my FAC peers. The experience added tools and advice that will be an integral part of my writing toolbox for as long as I pick up a pencil. Thank you again for the amazing opportunity!
My Interlochen Summer Cello Intensive was a one-of-a-kind experience. Meeting other people who share my aspirations and meeting incredible teachers was extremely beneficial to my summer experience and musical knowledge. I was chosen to perform in a masterclass for Detroit Symphony Principal Cellist Wei Yu and was also 1 out of 6 cellists selected to perform a solo in the final recital. Being exposed to different teaching styles and having unique performance experiences has been incredibly beneficial to my continued passion for music and growth as an artist.
My experience at ABT's virtual summer intensive was an enlightening and educational experience. I loved the teachers in this program. Their teaching and guidance even through zoom was so helpful and allowed me to really work on my technique and the small things that really make a difference in dance. I loved the variety of the teachers and being able to have many different teachings and ideas impact my development! I hope to carry the things I learned with me through this year to improve and grow in my dancing. It was an amazing opportunity and I am so thankful for the scholarship provided to me by the Fine Arts Center and allowing me to become a more well-rounded and enlightened dancer. I am thrilled to go into this year with the knowledge I gained this summer! Thank you so much for the scholarship to this intensive.
